
Karachi: Skipper Nauman Ali bagged 11 wickets to help Northern beat Central Punjab (CP) by nine wickets and mark the first victory in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020-21.
Nauman took 7 wickets for 53 runs in the second inning to restrict CP to 227 runs with setting up only 33 runs for Northern to chase. Umair Masood scored 21 runs while Zeeshan Malik was not out for 11 runs as Northern easily chased the target with nine wickets in hand.
Earlier, CP were bowled out for 159 in first inning thanks to Nauman who picked up 4-55. Besides Nauman, Raza Hassan bagged three wickets to help Northern dominate on day 1. Ali Zaryab was the highest run-scorer from CP with 78 runs off 144 balls laced with nine boundaries and a six.
In reply, Northern posted 354 runs and took 195 runs lead over the opposition. Umer Amin scored 94 runs off 181 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and a six while Hammad Azam notched 56 runs off 79 balls with four boundaries and three maximums. Ahmed Safi took five wickets for CP in the first inning.
